LifeWise Bible Instruction Expands Across Indiana
LifeWise Academy, a non profit based in Hilliard Ohio, plans to triple its Indiana programs this fall after new legislation requires school districts to cooperate. The group provides off site religious instruction during classroom hours to public school students, sparking debate over public resources and religious proselytizing in a literacy challenged state. LifeWise founder Joel Penton says many parents want faith based values included in education, while critics caution about separation of church and state. Indiana law signed in March will see 45 schools partner with LifeWise this fall as the program grows to over 520 locations nationwide with about 31,000 students. LifeWise is donor funded, with more than $13 million in contributions reported mid 2023, and opposes same sex marriage and gender identity policies.
