John Roberts a kindergartner at Roosevelt Elementary in Elyria receives help with a tattoo from teacher Ms Abfall as summer break begins. Tuesday marked the final day for students in Elyria public schools closing the district for summer.
A Parma man received 941 years to life after being convicted of abducting raping and killing Mary Jo Pesho at Parmatown Mall in 1996. Co defendant Shannon Kidd was sentenced to 40 years. The jury had recommended the maximum penalty for Pesho’s murder.
Jose Sanchez 26 of Cleveland tried to reach Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court but fled state troopers and North Ridgeville police. He used a borrowed 1992 Chevrolet Lumina, was stopped at Route 10 and I 490, ran into a wooded area, and hid in a culvert with a police dog after a 90 minute manhunt. He faces charges in Elyria Municipal Court including failure to comply with an order driving under suspension speeding and no seat belt. The Cleveland court date was rescheduled to June 17.
