Healthier Washington reports decline in mortality and infant deaths
Washington reports show overall mortality fell from 11.3 to 10.9 per thousand from 1930 to 1931 and infant deaths declined. The drop partly reflects less industrial activity and a shift toward plain living. Welfare and public health efforts, plus public generosity, reduced evident want and supported health, though concerns about crime and social decay linger.
