White House plans to send back Cuban refugees involved in riots
The White House says Cuban refugees who instigated the Fort Chaffee riots and hundreds of suspected criminals among 111,000 Cuban refugees will not be allowed to remain in the United States. Press secretary Jody Powell says these "undesirable refugees" will be returned to Cuba, with the Justice Department pursuing cases against those with serious crimes or law violations. About 700 Cubans are detained for criminal-record review and another 100 for potential Fort Chaffee involvement while the State Department presses Cuba and seeks UN and OAS help.
