Felons Tax $1 To Finance Crime Bureau
Raleigh report states the 1937 North Carolina act taxes convicted criminals one dollar to fund a scientific crime prevention bureau. Revenue supports operating costs and dependents of slain officers, with a 50 50 division. The bureau will include ballistic, blood analysis, and poison investigators and work with the attorney general on lynching and election crime probes. A state wide radio system for highway patrol and county officers to be tested soon, with five stations and central transmitter in Raleigh.
