United Nations delegates halted the stalled negotiations in Panmunjom and walked out on the Communists. Major General William Harrison said he would return for a 11 a.m. session next Wednesday, signaling renewed tension in the 11 month armistice talks.
The Oberlin campus will host a public illumination in Tappan Square at 8 30 p m with hundreds of lanterns to be viewed by graduates, families and visitors. A 9 30 p m concert by the Commencement Band follows on Finney Chapel plaza as more events unfold before Monday’s commencement exercises.
Fire department ladder truck responded to Ridgelawn Cemetery to replace the flagpole rope after it was cut down by local youths. Safety Service Director D. W. Kothe noted the rope has required multiple replacements due to vandalism by boys.

Lorain county plans a 1953 election board budget of 75 020 dollars. This exceeds the current year by 8 900 and 19 299 over 1951. New precincts and higher booth official pay drive costs. board members receive 1 520 dollars and employees 17 000. Judges and clerks total 15 000, supplies 17 000, other expenses 12 000. County auditor and treasurer budgets follow, with the auditor's total about 583 648 dollars, down 8 000 from this year due to removing a 310 000 item.
Washington negotiators for the steel industry and CIO United Steel Workers report progress in White House sponsored talks on a six day strike. Officials say an early settlement is hoped for next week as defense production fears grow. Senators Morse and Humphrey said hopeful signs point to a settlement in days.
Lorain grocer and former mayoral candidate, 42, was fined 200 dollars and costs and sent to three months in the Toledo workhouse after being found guilty of contributing to the delinquency of his 17-year-old son John Sipos. The son testified he delivered about 60 policy slips to a Cleveland headquarters, daily except Sundays, with "Tom's Garage" as the drop.

Management and MES.A. Labor Union Locals 15 and 18 reached a labor-management pact at General Industries. A cost-of-living raise of two cents per hour was granted under a contract running through 1953 with a provision to reopen wage issues.
Gen Dwight D Eisenhower at his second presidential press conference said he would travel anywhere to meet Joseph Stalin if it would promote peace and security, but he questioned if such a personal meeting is the right path. He stressed peace and security as the campaign’s top issue and warned the world remains unsettled while Soviet Communism endures. The Elyria High School Alumni Association held its 73rd annual meeting at the Elks hall with Luke Buyson presiding. Jack Meyer was elected president with Margaret Claycomb as vice president and Virginia Stetson as secretary-treasurer. a reunion next year was planned.

The 1952 Elyria District Catholic High School year ended with a mass and breakfast before the final honors assembly. Leonard Kaszubinski led the senior class with the top grade and a world affairs medal. he and William Crow received major scholarships. Other honors and honor rolls across seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen recognized for scholastic excellence.
Elvira Summer School registration will be held Monday at 8:00 in Room 101 Lincoln Building High School. Principal Harry Frankfather urges all students to pay tuition then. Elementary program runs six weeks, high school seven, with fees eight dollars for two elementary subjects and twenty dollars per outside course.
Two hundred Boy Scouts and leaders from Elyria Oberlin Grafton Wellington and nearby areas camp at Firelands Camp near Kipton for a three day district Camporee with knot tying fire building native study compass work rope throwing and mapping contests. Explorer Scouts supervise events while units provide tents food and equipment. Highest awards include Life Badge and Star Ranger with several First Class and merit badge recognitions announced during a closing ceremony.
