City Eyes Electrification Plan For Elyria Waterworks

An engineering firm Havens and Emerson will draft plans for electrifying Elyria Waterworks pumping station with a contract likely signed Friday. Fees range 3.9 to 5.85 percent of project cost, with $250 000 to $500 000 bracket at 4.55 percent. The firm may supervise construction if needed. funding already sits at $288 000 with a $100 000 surplus added in 1951. The station uses three steam pumps handling up to 16 million gallons daily.

Taft Eisenhower Battle Is Close In South Dakota

In Pierre South Dakota Taft and Eisenhower battled to a razor edge with Taft holding a slim lead as counting halted at night only 200 of 1953 precincts heard. Woman Held In Stabbing Of Husband

A 35 year old Colley road resident was jailed on an investigation charge after a near fatal stabbing of her husband, 49 year old George Oppman, at their home. Deputies said the husband, wounded in the chest, was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital in fair condition. The woman, described as a serious alcoholic in untreated danger, was intoxicated and unable to provide a statement. Their 15 year old son Joseph witnessed only that his parents fought.

Amherst Man Is Rescued From Sandusky Bay

A 63 year old Amherst man Peter Schuller was rescued from Sandusky Bay by State Highway Patrolman R J Falls and Cpl G C Reichert near Sandusky. He apparently fell in water while trying to start his boat motor about a quarter mile west of Sandusky. His grandson Albert Schuller Jr. reported he was fishing yesterday but unaware of the accident. Schuller is retired from the Lake Terminal of the National Tube Co Lorain and resides at 515 East Avenue Amherst. He has three children Albert Jr Mrs Peter Schandersky Lorain and Mrs Bob Lawhead Oberlin.

American troops storm three POW compounds on KOJE Island wiping out Communist symbols. They freed 17 anti Communist detainees, arrested 75 Red leaders including five commissars, and seized banners without a shot fired. Rural Electric Customers To Get Rate Cut

Lorain county rural electric customers and other rural O P S areas will see a rate reduction under Ohio Edison Co projected schedules. The change aims at an annual saving of about 300000 for those rural customers, while the company overall would incur an 860000 increase.
