Family of man killed by bus gets $1.7 million

A $1.7 million settlement was reached in a civil case against Ryder Truck Rental Inc. over a January 10, 1997 bus crash that killed Robert Werbing and seriously injured his niece Phyllis Hylen. The bus had been taking students home from Northwood Junior High School. the driver Debra Borecki was acquitted of vehicular homicide.

Ridgeville man dies in crash on Route 20

A North Ridgeville man, Daniel K. Gresco, 21, died at the scene after a collision with a First Baptist Church van on U.S. Route 20 near state Route 58. The van driver Tom Bruhn, 38, and passengers Brian Gardiner, 27, and Brent Clay, 36, were treated for injuries in nearby hospitals.

High Speed German Train Derails in Hanover Area

In Eschede near Hanover a Munich to Hamburg high speed train collided with a car, killing 70 and injuring hundreds. About 13 cars derailed and the overpass collapsed as passengers were rescued from twisted wreckage. Authorities and emergency crews rushed to hospitals while rail traffic halted nationwide.
