Navy Airman Recruit Ricky A. Dowell and shipmates aboard the USS Nimitz in Norfolk return from deployments in the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean. Also aboard are Chief Gunner’s Mate Clifford L. Tennyson and Electronic Warfare Technician 3rd Class Daniel O. Hubach. Various sailors and Marines, including Scott M. Cole, Charles L. Besozzi, Donald R. Denny, David A. Payne, Keight A. Moody, and Jesse L. Deel Jr., are noted with service histories and training completed or ongoing at bases in Norfolk Camp Lejeune Fort Benning and others.
Common Pleas Judge Adrian F Bedeski ruled the Balsam Concrete and Supply plant on seven acres at Chester Road Route 83 may continue construction but cannot operate until Ohio EPA approval is issued. Avon had sought to halt work over missing EPA clearance. EPA reps confirmed no operating permit yet. The site, zoned M-1, was bought Dec 19 1978 after permits, with Avon previously invalidated legislation aimed to block construction. Cole's Law refers to a cabbage dish.
The Community Action Coalitions of Elyria Lorain and Oberlin formed a Lorain County Coalition to back four Democratic candidates in the June 3 primary. Endorsements by Rev William Wheatly followed discussions with the contenders. Candidates are Daniel P Stringer for county prosecutor Alan Zaleski for county commissioner Joseph Cirigliano for common pleas judge and Don J Pease for Congress. Wheatly noted Pease was endorsed despite lack of Black staff hires.
