Oberlin Fire Department veteran Hanmer retires after 57 years
From his first volunteer stint in 1964 to a full-time role in 1972 Hanmer rose to assistant chief under Fire Chief Dennis Kirin. He helped guide crews during a spate of fires including an April Morgan Street blaze that claimed a 12 year old girl and her grandmother. Retiring with plans for boating and fishing he may return part time.
