Lorain county records pioneer Leota Mitchell dies aged 96
Leota Babcock Mitchell long served Lorain County as recorder for 24 years and as a Lorain civic leader. Born in Lorain she lived in North Ridgeville 59 years and held multiple public offices including school board and city council. She helped found the county recorder’s association and chaired several local projects before retiring in 1982.

Lorain Man Arrested After Oberlin Break-In
Richard D. Barnett, 20, of 1512 West 22nd Street, was arrested at 4:13 a.m. on Route 58 north of Oberlin after allegedly breaking into a North Main Street residence. He is charged with aggravated burglary and is in fair condition at Allen Memorial Hospital with a wounded arm. Bond set at $10,000 awaiting arraignment.

Oberlin girl injured in Route 58 collision
An Oberlin girl, 14, was treated at Memorial Hospital after a two car crash on Route 58 Saturday afternoon. Marlene Yakunovich sustained a broken shoulder cuts and possible head injury while riding with her mother Sarah Yakunovich. The other driver Mary A Hurlburt 20 of Wellington was cited for driving left of center.

A 77-year-old Lorain woman was awakened when an intruder entered through a kitchen window and slept with her before raping her. She struck him with a small sledgehammer, he fled, and police tracked the suspect with a dog before losing the scent. fingerprints were found at the scene.

Woman crashes into tree after falling asleep at wheel
