Botha rejects Tutu demand for urgent meeting
Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu asked for an urgent talk with President P W Botha over black unrest. Botha refused, offering a later meeting with an Anglican delegation led by Archbishop Phillip Russell on Aug 19. Viviers said the president will not meet Tutu separately before then.

Fund boost could delay Elyria school levy approval

Reagan invites Soviets to observe next U.S. test
President Reagan extended an unconditional invitation for a Soviet observers team to Nevada to monitor the next American underground nuclear test. Deputy Press Secretary Larry Speakes said the gesture shows U S seriousness in arms talks and sought a timely Soviet response though no date for the test was announced.

Escaped bull kills Sheffield Village man
A 72 year old Sheffield Village resident Erwin Hunter died at St Joseph Hospital Lorain after being attacked by a bull that escaped its pen. He sustained a crushed chest and liver laceration and died following three hours of surgery. Hunter, an electrician for U S Steel Lorain Cuyahoga Works, was attacked while trying to return the bull to its pen. He is survived by his wife and five children. Funeral arrangements are pending.
