Dawn of California wildfire emergency grips multiple counties
Fires raged across northern and southern California amid hot winds and arid conditions. Gov. Jerry Brown issued emergency proclamations in Riverside and Shasta counties to mobilize resources. Overnight, the Whiskeytown region blaze near French Gulch grew to 31 square miles threatening hundreds of homes, with evacuations widening. In Riverside County a separate arson case linked to five fires led to the arrest of Brandon N. McGlover, 32, of Temecula. Yosemite and San Jacinto fires prompted closures and large-scale evacuations, while Idyllwild faced mass displacement and a 50,000 foot smoke plume creating its own weather.”
