Apollo 15 launched on a 12 day lunar mission to Jagged Mountains and a deep canyon as three astronauts Scott Worden and Irwin set course for the Moon. The 6 million pound Saturn 5 lifted off from Cape Kennedy at 9 34 am EDT. President Nixon watched from Camp David and praised the crew. Union OKs pact ends Bendix strike at West Inghouse
United Auto Workers Local 971 votes 450 to 120 for production workers and 45 to 30 for skilled workers to ratify a seven day strike settlement at Bendix West Inghouse Automotive Air Brake Co. The contract adds a 40 cent immediate raise, 3 percent raises after six months and final two years, plus 100 percent cost of living next year, enhanced health and welfare, extra holidays, and pension improvements. Retirement ages shift to 58 with $500 monthly at that point, 30 year staff can retire early with reduced pension. 1974 retirement drops to 56 but $500 monthly remains. Production ceiling rises to 155 percent. Strike benefits due next Monday and Tuesday. Company would not comment.

Crash victim took wrong car in lot at country club
Harry J Hinchliffe 54 of Conneaut former Standard Screw executive died in a one car crash on Rt 20 near Russia Road Saturday. He allegedly took a car owned by Oberlin attorney Robert Fauver and left keys inside. Fauver said Hinchliffe did not borrow the car and the model could not be confirmed. The crash caused fatal internal injuries. Obituary on page 14.

3500 Mile Bicycle Journey Ends for John Fay
John Fay, 25, finished a 3500 mile ride from San Francisco to Medford Massachusetts after 34 days and 12 flat tires. He quit his poverty volunteer work in Oakland and called the trip fantastic, learning self reliance and meeting diverse people. The toughest stretch was the Rockies and the Sierras with 46 miles of downhill ahead.
