Malpractice law to gain quick use in Ohio
Insurance Director Harry Jump says he will move immediately to implement Ohio s new malpractice law once signed by Gov Rhodes. The bill creates a Joint Underwriting Association to provide last resort malpractice insurance for physicians and hospitals and establishes an assigned risk pool for those unable to obtain private coverage. The emergency bill limits attorney fees and allows deductions from settlements only for privately gained payments, with private insurance not deductible. The JUA pool would operate for a few years and expire December 31 1978 unless extended by the legislature.
