Sailing events quiet on Lake Erie after big regattas
Sail racing on the south shore of Lake Erie pauses as skippers rest from trophy quests. The Lake Erie Race from Buffalo to LaSalle and Port Huron to Mackinac Island are in the records and the 85th I LY A Regatta at Put-in-Bay looms for points toward the Lake Erie Championship. Junior regatta week advances with 20 crews from I L Y A clubs competing for the junior championship and Sears Cup quarterfinals, with North Cape Yacht Club and San Diego Mission Bay noted for finals. VEC Juniors skip captain Skip Canfield join Richard Osberg and Chris Duskey, while housing and reg registration is led by Dr. John Stack. Final gun marks the passing of Scotty Robertson, former I L Y A Commodore, with Commodore Keith Davis having died earlier this year. Cleveland Yachting Club opens its Centennial Week with a large sail and power regatta, including a Flying Mile and various amusements. Other notes cover Happy Hour near Bay, Bay Week races upcoming, Tall Ships Pacific event in San Francisco, and Life Pac 5 efforts for Put-in-Bay police with a defibrillator. A Vermilion area note thanks readers for Coast Guard history copies.
