In Lorain County Ohio governor candidates Ted Strickland and John Kasich planned separate events today. Strickland at Diner 254 Sheffield noon to 1 p.m. on his Main Street tour. Kasich and running mate Mary Taylor at Watteredge Inc Avon Lake 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Focus is on jobs and stark policy differences.

Girl hit by pickup in Vermilion I-4700 block cross
A 12 year old girl Krissa Nalepka was struck by a 2005 Chevy Silverado while crossing Liberty Avenue near Crystal Shores Apartments in Vermilion at 10 50 a m. She was in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center with a broken wrist and possible head injuries. The Avon driver was not cited.

Bank holdup suspect eyed as Amherst FirstMerit robbery link
Police and FBI consider the Wednesday East Lake Road Chase Bank robbery may be the same man who robbed the Amherst FirstMerit branch last week. The white male suspect, 35 to 40, about 6 feet tall, wore a black shirt jeans and cap, handed a note and fled with cash. No injuries. A reward is offered for information. Call Sheffield Lake police or the FBI.

Uncle testifies about starving kids in Dallas trial
Abner Santiago testified in Dallas as the trial of Alfred Santiago for injuring a child and continuous sexual abuse opened. He described rescuing his niece and two nephews from a hotel room where they were kept malnourished and weak. A 1 year old girl, the suspect’s daughter, was found healthy. The children’s mother, Abneris Santiago, had custody of all four children earlier this month.
