Heart disease among athletes puzzles doctors

Physicians warn that 10 to 15 athletes yearly die from heart disease or congenital defects sometimes linked to a genetic condition, with cases including 19 year olds Stuart and Robinson. Experts note athletes show no warning signs and drugs are not a factor, while cocaine may amplify risks for those with heart disease.

Family farms warned on endangered list in US agriculture study

Ohio activist says a congressional Office of Technology Assessment report warns the family farm may drop from 2.2 million in 1982 to 1.2 million by 2000 with 75 percent of production from about 50,000 farms. The last shot is a mid September United Farm and Ranch Congress gathering, with 1,500 delegates anticipated. Wettstein warns the trend could end farms that remain. The report also notes a larger farm sector could bring cheaper, safer, more nutritious food for consumers.
