Area residents faced a sizzling Friday as near 94 degree heat sparked a medical emergency. Donald Manilla, 49, of 25 Beaver Park Lorain, remained in critical condition at St. hospital after an incident attributed to heat stroke.
A heat-stricken man is in critical condition after a five car crash at the corner of Colorado and East Erie in Lorain. Police say Manilla, westbound on East Erie, lost control after a stroke, sideswiped a car and caused two vehicles to rear end others. Passengers in other vehicles suffered minor injuries and were treated at St Joseph Hospital.
The Chronicle Telegram straw poll shows 209 of 382 respondents favor destroying pit bulls while 171 oppose and two are undecided. A North Olmsted resident donated 100 to the Lorain County Animal Protective League to help save them, arguing for protection and noting dogs as intelligent. Others share horror stories and urge bans or containment.
SANDUSKY AP report says 57 year old George E Ritchey NT died when his 16 foot fiberglass craft rammed a breakwall at Cedar Point Marina in Sandusky Bay. Investigators suspect Ritchey had a heart attack or seizure before the crash. the boat was found with throttle full ahead and Ritchey’s body located about 55 feet from the vessel.
Elyria Ohio Supreme Court assigns Judge Joseph Cirigliano to preside over the James F Anadell case after previously disqualifying him from a similar matter. The move, seen as unusual for a local judge serving as a visiting judge in his own county, prompted comments from Lorain County Prosecutor Gregory White who says the office is reviewing options. Cirigliano is a longtime ally of Chief Justice Celebrezze with three attorneys in his court noted as partners.
The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies tonight with a chance of showers and thunder storms after midnight. Lows near 70 to 75. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of storms and highs in the mid 80s. Details on page A-3.
