The Lorain County Speedway hosts 3/8 mile oval racing with ORA supermodifieds and spectator stocks led by Tony Lavall. Dave Shullick and Jum Shampine miss headlining after Shampine’s Oswego crash. Shampine’s injuries include a broken ankle and wrist, sidelining the showdown.
Lorain County Speedway hosts two days of racing with open-wheel supermodifieds and stock cars. Shullick leads Asphalt All-Star 100 action while Jim Shampine’s return is offset by his injury. Chuck Ciprich steps in as he leads a loaded Oswego-connected field. Saturday features AMRA midgets headlined by King Kramer, with Bob Flagg’s computer designed midget a dark horse. Gates open 5 pm tonight and 6 pm Saturday with racing from 8 pm tonight.
West Salem awaits the AHRA Grand Nationals as Dragway 42 hosts class and eliminator action. Big Daddy Don Garlits seeks to defend his title against Frank Bradley in a year of fierce AHRA competition with 800 points at stake for the Grand Nationals winner.
John Sandquist leads the Sandusky points race after midseason action at the speedway. Bull Hart and Jam Sexton fight for runner up as Sexton recovers from two blown head gaskets costing him the lead. Defending champ Jerry Owens sits fourth with Randy Prince fifth as Shullick and Seelman clash in supermodifieds. Ensign tops sport stock with Lawson White and Muller round out the top five. Racing resumes Saturday night at 7:30.
General manager Tim Shaver announced midweek racing at Cloverleaf Speedway starting Wednesday night through summer end. The program features sport and spectator stock divisions plus a large slate of parking lot drags with gates at 6 pm and the first race at 7. Sunday night will spotlight ORA stock car events and a special AMRA midget exhibition with a feature race only, followed by a full program the next Sunday as little open wheelers return for their quarter mile oval. Spectator gates open Sunday at 5 with racing starting at 4.
Daredevil performer Tricky Travelstead a Kentucky native will entertain Sunday night as stock car racing fills the Sharon Speedway card. Glenn Gault of Hubbard leads the super late model feature standings with four wins after finishing second last week to Bob Sibtla of Massillon who started late. In semi late action Bill Gabrielson of Warren leads points though rising Mike Kurkowski of Madison has pressed the leader.
Nearly 256 Eastern drivers converge on Nelson Ledges Road Course in Warren for the WSRC National final of the SCCA season. Mahoning Valley Region hosts the event, aiming to decide National Championship contenders and Northeast Division supremacy. Practice is Saturday 830 am to 6 pm, races Sunday starting 945 am with final at 415 pm. Spectators can expect close action and ample gas and camping at the track located on Route 305 two miles west of US 422.
