The piece recounts a Sunday flight from Cleveland Hopkins to Port Clinton aboard Alfred M. Meen’s six seat Mooney executive twin. It details fuel use, speed, and range, notes the aircraft’s advanced instruments, and shares anecdotes about the pilot’s experiences and amusing airport charges. It shifts to reflections on socialized medicine and doctor brain drain in the UK and Ireland, then back to Elyria Memorial extern program with quotes about applying to US hospitals.

Imitation as Driver of Modernization in Backward Nations
Eric Hoffer argues rapid modernization is imitation of advanced models. He notes that the impetus to imitate causes convulsive change, that the imitator’s success hinges on identifying with the model, and that Westernization often struggles due to colonial memory, inequality, and political fear. He also suggests collectivist cohesion may aid imitation while warning against hostile emulation.
