Midview to abandon ruptured oil tank at Brentwood Lake
GRAFTON Midview High School will abandon the underground oil tank that ruptured in January and spilled oil into Brentwood Lake. The district will also keep an oil tank at Grafton Elementary and Midview High to meet fuel needs during a crisis. Board sent a notice to Brentwood Homeowners Association about the tank's nonuse and discussed liability. The board accepted eight resignations and announced three open industrial arts positions and five middle school posts, while hiring three new elementary teachers.

County parks board OKs temporary staff additions
Lorain County Metropolitan Park District Board approved temporary hires including a play area designer for about two years and a temporary landscape architect for at least three months. They gave small salary raises to two staff and named Richard Harmych as park planner with a raise to 14200. A bid for river bank protection at Forest Hills Golf Course was rejected and will be re advertised. Regular bills totaling about 20150.57 were authorized and bids for golf course fertilizer will be advertised to leverage end of season discounts.

Midview Board Approves 1979 Budget Over $5 Million
GRAFTON The Midview Local Board of Education approved a 1979 budget exceeding $5 million. The plan boosts salaries for staff and administrators and increases spending on transportation, equipment replacement, and utilities. Estimated general fund revenue for 1979 is $5,229,525 with spending of $5,147,330 and an ending balance of $152,195.

Appliances stolen from Darrow Road home near Vermilion
Thieves took more than $900 in appliances and household items from a Darrow Road residence while the owners were on vacation. Items including a refrigerator, TV, kitchen table and chairs, and dishes were taken between Sunday and Wednesday. Entrance was through the front door and the incident remains under investigation.
