Ohio State University agricultural engineer Professor G. W. McCuen warns that raising concaves increases grain loss, while too-tight clearance causes almost complete kernel loss. Tests in Ohio show 398 pounds per acre with tight settings drop to 60 pounds with maximum clearance.
