Blood Tests Continue in Lorain County Brucellosis Drive
Local veterinarians with government support test 290 suspect herds in Lorain County as part of a countywide blood-testing program for brucellosis in dairy cattle. By midweek, 192 herds encompassing 3,120 cattle had been tested, with 35 herds negative and 120 infected, 371 reactors, and 347 suspects. Samples from 1,086 cows were analyzed at a mobile laboratory in Mansfield as the effort aims to identify infected animals before pasteurization risks via unpasteurized milk. Reactivity depends on antibody levels, and repeat testing will continue at government expense until negatives or positives are proven.
