Washington July 6 President Roosevelt tacitly backed plans to speed a tax the rich program through the House to raise revenue from wealthy citizens. Ways and Means Democrats were told rates would be left to Congress but substantial revenue is desired. Hearings may begin Monday with a bill to raise income taxes on high earners, boost gift taxes, adjust corporate levies and add inheritance taxes.

The Orpheus Male Chorus of Cleveland will represent Elyria on a Russia tour invited by the Soviet government. Raymond Huston of Highth Street will join about forty men departing Montreal for London on August 29. A 90 member augmented chorus will perform twelve concerts in 20 days across Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, possibly London and New York, with first concert in Leningrad on September 11 and return flights planned for late September.

24 Injured In Wreck Of Fast Train
WILLISTON North Dakota July 5 Twenty four persons were injured today in a wreck of the Empire Builder, Great Northern’s crack transcontinental flyer. A cloudburst washed out the tracks ahead of the westbound train, the locomotive stayed upright as it plunged into a draw, the tender, baggage car, smoker and two coaches overturned. One Pullman and one diner derailed but remained upright. Two of the injured were in serious condition and taken to Williston Hospital. Three doctors and a nurse on the train treated the wounded at the scene.
