Beer supplies steady as local distributors settle contracts

Elyria area residents can expect beer shortages to be avoided this Fourth of July as Lorain County Beverage, Goodman Beverage Co., and Anheuser-Busch wholesaler reach new agreements. Teamsters Local 571 struck three Lorain and Amherst distributors, while Kerr Beverage and RKK Distributing work toward settlements. Goodman's deal keeps Rolling Rock Genesee Old Milwaukee brands flowing to about 1,100 outlets.

Fourth of July Outlook From Lorain County Retailers

Local 571 officials could not be reached. Hipp and Goodman said most Lorain County retailers stocked up and drivers were on the road so residents won’t face shortages. Goodman added that everyone’s covered for the Fourth of July.

Natural gas blast damages Oberlin Road home in Oberlin

A gas line uncoupled in the basement fed fuel to a fire that destroyed both floors and the basement of a home at 12584 Oberlin Rd. Ronald and Amy Webber were away. Fire Chief Doyle Jones said an electrical spark ignited the gas causing the explosion. Firemen arrived at 3:47 pm and contained the blaze in five minutes.
