Marines confirm Elyrian native wounded in Korea
Sgt. William James Monti, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas A Monti of Defiance, was wounded January 18 in Korea while serving as a tank commander with the First Marine Division. General Lemuel Shepherd reported the wound not serious as he remained in the combat zone. Monti, a 1950 Defiance High School graduate, previously operated Martins Restaurant with his parents.
