Court orders jurys Kent report destroyed by federal judge

UPI reports a federal judge, William M. Thomas, ordered the special grand jury report on the Kent State killings destroyed to avoid prejudice in trials. He noted oath violations and that indictments remain independent from the report. He warned destruction could prejudice defendants’ right to a fair trial.

North Ridgeville family of 8 homeless after fire

A North Ridgeville family of eight lost their home at 5016 Stoney Ridge Road in a daytime blaze. Harold and Mrs Wressell and their children escaped with injuries and two dogs perished. Firefighters battled in near zero temps for hours as embers and smoke filled the house.

Welfare to reclaim funds paid to Lorain bar owner

Welfare director Gerard Prinz said funds paid as aid to Ellis Vasu would be reclaimed and he may have to sell the S & J Bar at 1624 EB 28th St Lorain. Lorain County Prosecutor Joseph Grunda supported no criminal action and confirmed Vasu owns the bar. The State Liquor Control Commission also continued inquiry into ownership.

Four Rutgers hikers lost on Mt Washington amid deadly storm

A brutal northeast storm draped heavy snow and subzero wind chills as four Rutgers University Outdoor Club hikers vanished on Mt Washington New Hampshire. Rescue teams searched 5600 feet up the 6288 foot peak while the storm claimed eight lives and injured dozens across the Midwest and Northeast.

Snow expected in Ohio with travel warnings issued

Most of Ohio faced light snow with accumulations of one to two inches and gusty winds. The northeastern snowbelt reported up to 18 inches near Jefferson while East Cleveland and Willowick saw about two inches in an hour. Highs linger in the teens to low 20s with lows near zero to 10 below and a 70 percent snow probability today.
