Smith reaches broad agreement to hand power in Rhodesia

Prime Minister Ian Smith and three moderates Jeremiah Chirau Abel Muzorewa and Ndabaningi Sithole reached broad principles on a transition to black majority rule in Rhodesia. Negotiations addressed future security forces and the shape of a future Zimbabwe government while Nkomo and Mugabe outside talks vow to continue fighting. Papp prosecutors push map and trunk as evidence

In Lorain County hearings prosecutors gained permission to admit key items in the Papp case. The judge allowed the map of the trunk, a body autopsy, blood stained towel, clothing, video of map drawing, and incriminating statements from a taped interrogation. Ohio Edison says 56 day coal stock, plans cutbacks

Ohio Edison officials report a 56 day coal supply and warn a longer strike could prompt stage one cutbacks within a week to 10 days. Spokesman Dave Poeppelmeier says the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved the plan and facilities may enact first phase reductions.

Weather knocks down LCCC enrollment in winter term

Lorain County Community College saw a 12.6 percent drop in winter quarter credits from fall, double the normal decline. Fall enrollment of 5,494 fell to 4,804 with 690 fewer students, while full time equivalents fell 11.3 percent. Officials cite foul weather as the main factor and note state aid remains unaffected by the fall count.
