In a bitterly cold January day at Durkee's General Store in Grafton proprietor David Bescan explains the furnace outage and frozen pipes. Workmen repair the heating as patrons, especially children, look on while an old stove provides only atmosphere. A nearby dress dummy showcases an 1850s tea gown barely fitting the figure.
David Durkee opens a storefront on Main Street shaping a living history store inspired by his family lineage. He collects authentic period fixtures from the Ozark Mountains and Chillicothe, stocks dry goods, candies, crockery and 19th century reproductions, and plans kerosene lamp lighting and coffee days as part of a downtown revitalization effort linked to the Go Grafton movement.
Abby counsels on marital strain from a backache affecting intimacy, emphasizes that love must show in actions beyond pain. Advises seeking professional help for abusive behavior and, if refused, leaving to avoid continued harm. Also addresses overinvitations and gifting etiquette, urging gifts or cards based on closeness and personal joy in giving.
