The narrative recalls Billy Mitchell, the “stormy petrel” of the Army Air Corps, who clamored for a strong air force and fought graft and mismanagement. It notes his dismissal, postwar honors stripped, and his warnings of a coming air power era echoed by modern leaders. The piece contrasts his foresight with today’s push for air armament and economic policies backed by new state administrations and notable governors.
