Icy pavement blamed for Elyria fatal crash on Cleveland street
Elyria reports its first fatal traffic accident this year on Cleveland Street near Beebecourt as 63 year old Frank Rateil of North Abbe Road dies after a taxi collision with a car driven by Lawrence Ashenbach of 155 Cornell Avenue. Police say icy, fleecy snowfall made pavement extremely slippery. Drivers Robert Mills and Ashenbach were treated for severe injuries. Rateil, a machinist at General Industries, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements set for Taylor Funeral Home.
