Tate murder jury begins deliberation

Los Angeles AP reports after seven months of trial the Tate murder case goes to jury deliberations. The seven person jury heard Vincent Bugliosi’s closing statement naming seven victims and citing the murders as among crime history’s most savage. Defendants Manson Atkins Krenwinkel and Van Houten face first degree and conspiracy charges as the judge cautions jurors about corroboration and accomplice testimony. Kasabian testified for immunity while the defense argued unknown perpetrators did the killings.

No heavy snow for Lorain County area this week

The US Weather Bureau at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport reports only light, intermittent snow with no heavy accumulation expected. A 50 percent chance of some snow this morning shifts to lighter flurries this afternoon and tomorrow, with cold winds and temperatures from five to fifteen degrees tonight.

Lorainite charged with bank robbery

Marvin F. Moon age 23 of Lorain was charged with bank robbery in connection with the armed Holdup of The Central Security National Bank in Lorain. The robbery netted about 5900 dollars and Moon faced a 25000 bond with a January 22 military hearing scheduled.

Koehring USW union talks hinge on Lorain strike end

Lorain Koehring Co union talks resume as USW Local 4849 salaried workers near agreement with the company. Production workers in Local 1242 recently voted to accept the proposed contract, potentially ending a 16 week strike that involved 630 hourly and 150 salaried workers. The new three year contract raises hourly pay and expands pension, life insurance, and sickness benefits. A meeting at the Aquamarine Ramada Inn Avon Lake will include local president Robert Bloehorn and negotiator Richard Stith with mediator John Mesereau. If agreement is reached, plant operations may return next week and costly crane transfers could be reconsidered.

Testimony links smuggler of guns to Angela Davis case

Grand jury testimony publicly released ties Angela Davis to weapons used in the Aug. 7 escape attempt that left four dead in Marin County. The 127 pages name Peter Fleming and others who supplied firearms including a Browning pistol and a 12 gauge shotgun. Davis, a 26 year old ex UCLA instructor, faces murder kidnapping and conspiracy charges while denying participation in the shootout.
