Police hold man as suspect in attack on woman
A 36 year old married man was held by police late last night pending investigation of an attack on Martha Simkovich 20 as she walked home on West Third Street near the old fairgrounds. Simkovich identified a car with a matching license number and fought off her assailant. She was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for facial injuries and released.

Gen Arnold Dies Quietly Amid Nation's Mourning

Woman Struck By Car At Ridgeville Suffers Fracture
Miss Dorothy Walker a 24 year old Amherst woman was struck by an east bound car while crossing Route 20 to reach the Congregational church for a wedding. She suffered a compound fracture of her right leg and multiple scalp and leg injuries. The driver Keith Smith a Ridgeville student 17 said the collision occurred about 6 15 pm as he headed to the church. He stated two friends were with Miss Walker when the car struck her and that bright lights from an approaching car were on. The victim was in fair condition at Elysia Memorial hospital. Showdown Strike in Big Mine Fields Closes Many Pits

Wakeman Crossing Crash Kills Ernest G. Ebel at 63
Ernest G. Ebel, 63, a retired Cleveland patrolman, died when his car was struck by a New York Central freight train at the Wakeman Pleasant street crossing. His dog also perished. Ebel served 30 years on the Cleveland Police and earlier with the U S Army. Surviving family includes a wife Lela and multiple children and grandchildren. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gerber Funeral Home with burial in Wakeman cemetery.

His brother Joseph 27 was rescued after spending days behind fallen rock. Accidents Take 18 Lives In Ohio Over Weekend
United Press reports at least 18 people died in Ohio accidents over the weekend as weather and road dangers mounted. Names include Frank S Narewski 37 of Cleveland electrocuted stepping from his car into a high voltage wire in Maple Heights and William Skriba 45 of Toronto in a six mile north of Delaware crash. Also Joan D Girolamo 39 of Cleveland died when her car skidded 69 feet after another fatality. Three Huntington West Virginia men died when their car plunged into Blue Creek south of Ostrander. Victims named Buell Montgomery 25 of Chillicothe and others are noted in patrol records.
