Tough Security Law Proposed
The Justice Department sent Congress a draft for one of the nation's toughest security laws. It would legalize wire tapping require registration of all trained by foreign powers and make unauthorized possession of secret documents a crime. Attorney General Tom C. Clark called it essential to deter internal threats after a three year counter intelligence study.

Two 14 year olds Planned To Blow Up Philipsburg High School
In Philipsburg Pennsylvania two 14 year old boys faced a Centre County hearing before Judge Ivan Walker after they planted 180 sticks of dynamite and 75 caps in the Philipsburg High School auditorium and entrance. The youths said they feared failing eighth grade studies and decided to blow up the school.

Firemen Answer First Alarm In 10 Days
Hlyria residents reported an alarm at the Walter Schroeder home 164 Cleveland Street at 11 p m last night. Firemen found coal smoke from a smoking hot air furnace and declared no fire or damage. It was the seventh alarm of 1949 with six prior alarms in the first four days of January.

Mary Ella Little 24 also known as Thorpe of 319 North street was fined 20 dollars and costs and sentenced to five days in county jail after arraignment before Mayor Henry W Ault on petit larceny. She was arrested on Broad street after a Ber cos store report of a woman leaving with a 10 dollar skirt. Patrolman Neuman found the skirt in a bag she carried. Edward Woods of Brown Hotel was fined 10 dollars and costs on disorderly conduct after a 2 30 am arrest during a disturbance while he had been drinking. Gordon Watson of 360 West River street and William George King of Cleveland were each fined 5 dollars and costs on intoxication after arrest at Broad and Count streets at 1 30 am. Chester Woolbright of 111 Hazel street was fined 10 dollars and costs on disorderly conduct after a Jan 8 complaint from his home. Earl E Barr of 464 Tenth street was fined 15 dollars and costs for reckless driving after a collision on Tenth street. He fled the scene and failed to stop after the accident, police said.
