Dog Warden Reports 1938 County Kennel Profits
County Dog Warden Lee Minkler presented the 1938 annual report to the county commissioners. Kennel receipts totaled 450 with 130 spent on dog food, yielding a net kennel operation profit of 320. The year saw 1,271 dogs impounded, 1,167 gas chamber executions, 18 redemptions, 86 sales, 109 depredation calls, 52 bites, 64 returns, and 31 humane actions. There were 11,300 dog licenses sold for 14,503 in fees, with 360 spent on sheep and cattle claims, 134 of which stemmed from dogs from surrounding counties, leaving 50 sheep killed and 21 injured.

First Scarlet Fever Case Reported in 1939
City health officials were notified this week of the first scarlet fever case this month. The patient is four year old Nancy Waller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Waller of 115 Beverly Court. Health Commissioner Dr. George E. French called the case mild. Two cases were reported in December and seven in November.

Inside the prison, a joyful reunion with wife Rena Mooney and family followed a long day of emotion as photographers crowded the scene. Effinger Pleads Not Guilty in Two Michigan Cases
