Youngstown Sheet and Tube resumed its Bessemer converter at Campbell and added a fifth open hearth at Brier Hill, Republic Steel added at Warren, Carnegie-Illinois closed two open furnaces for repairs, leaving two Bessemer furnaces, 47 open hearths and 12 blast furnaces active. Republic Steel may reopen a Bessemer converter soon and there is potential for lightening a blast furnace at the Sheet and Tube Brier Hill works when demand rises.
