Lakewood moves to block Westlake Health Campus plan

Lakewood City Council will sue to halt the Westlake Health Campus project with help from Elyria and Lorain hospitals. Lakewood Hospital trustees say the $43 million project was improperly approved and would raise regional health costs while Bay View and St. John’s hospitals pledge support for court action. Local officials accuse Lakewood of pursuing self interest and replacing beds with a costly legal delay.

Kent State settlement approved to end eight-year suit

The Ohio Controlling Board approved 675000 dollars in state funds to settle the Kent State shooting civil suit against Gov. Rhodes and others. The 6-1 vote funds a 600000 plus 75000 costs deal for 12 plaintiffs, ending years of litigation in U S District Court Cleveland. The agreement, conciliatory in tone, does not include apologies and aims to ease financial and emotional burdens for victims and families.

Wheelchair repossessed from disabled widow over unpaid rent

In Lenox Massachusetts, Marjorie Lindsey, permanently crippled in an auto crash, had her wheelchair rented from Roy's Orthopedic taken back after she owed 365 dollars. Her husband Edward and she protest, while the state says rehab assistance may be available and a loaned chair has been provided.

Goodwin Reinstated in Auto Tag Theft Case

A lawsuit seeking more than 426000 against Charles Goodwin was reinstated by assistant prosecutor John D. Pincura III. The suit targets the state auto tag theft from 1974 involving deputy Anthony Marsico who is in prison. Marsico pled guilty to receiving about 19000 and Goodwin acknowledged some extra funds but denies all. A pre trial conference is set in Judge Floyd Harris's court. Gallatin, also jailed, was not yet pursued.

Lorain family to receive pay in Kent State out-of-court settlement

Families of Kent State shooting victims hold a Cleveland press conference about an out-of-court settlement of 675000 dollars to be distributed among 13 victims. William Schroeder’s mother Mrs. Schroeder said the settlement includes 15000 dollars for the Schroeder family and a prepared media statement will be released at the Hallenden House Hotel in Cleveland.
