Fire Leaves Grafton Family Of Six Homeless
A three room concrete block home on Durkee road outside Grafton burned Sunday afternoon, gutting the Vail residence and all clothing. Four children and twin infants were left homeless. the family temporarily stayed with Mrs. Vail’s mother as the Emergency Board planned aid. The fire, caused by an overheated oil stove, was reported by neighbors as smoke poured from under the roof. Damages and inspector findings were pending. The family had been living at the address about two years.

Man and Woman Hurt In Lake avenue Crash
A Saturday Lake avenue Edison court collision injured two people and led to a reckless operation citation for Russell Beal, 39, of 343 Kenyon Avenue. Elizabeth Morgan, 24, of 237 Roosevelt Avenue, suffered head and limb injuries and was hospitalized. Beal’s passenger Richard Adams, 35, was treated for head and back injuries. John Rice 55 of Elyria died after a two car collision at State Route 76 and a county road south of Litchfield. Orland Dague 76 of Lodi also died. Mrs Bice and daughter Kathy were injured. all were taken to Lodi Hospital and released.

Father Of 4 Dies As Dairy Truck Veers Off Road
Charles R. Kramp 30 of Emmons Road Columbia Station died Sunday afternoon at Deaconess Hospital Cleveland from injuries after a milk truck veered off Brook Park Road west of Ridge Road struck a tree. He was a Producers Milk Co. driver with four sons surviving along with wife Isabel. Kramp, a 1941 Lakewood High School graduate, served three years in the navy during World War I. The family moved to Columbia Station three years ago. He had been employed by the company for several months. He was en route to Rocky River deliveries when the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Surviving are wife Isabel and four sons Richard Witham Robert and Charles. Continued on Page 2.

Word from the U S Army informs Mr and Mrs Samuel H Crayton that their son Cpl James H Crayton is presumed dead. He has been missing in action since November 27 1950 in Korea while serving with Medical Company 35th Infantry Regiment 2nd Infantry Division. Crayton a 1930 Elyria born graduate of Elyria High School 1947 and former Worthington Ball Co employee volunteered in 1948 and trained at Fort Knox Then Fort Sam Houston where he topped his class He later served in Guam before Korea where he stayed with wounded soldiers when his unit faced heavy enemy attack His family includes sister Mrs John LaDow and brother Robert Crayton.

President Eisenhower outlined the broad outlines of his administration program to Republican leaders. House Speaker Joseph W. Martin Jr said it will be well received by the country. Martin called the plan dynamic and progressive as he described a resume of the 1954 program. The State of the Union message will go to Congress Thursday at 12 30 p m with two special messages to follow January 11 on agricultural policy and changes to the Taft Hartley Act. The 1955 budget will be submitted July 1 and an economic report on January 28. Martin noted tax relief may be discussed and the conference served as a review of the plan.

Elyrian Charged In Armed Robbery After Card Game
James Mabry of 959 Foster Avenue was charged with armed robbery after beating Zedkiah Williams of 21 Chestnut Street and taking $150 at gunpoint in front of Williams residence. Williams signed an affidavit for Mabry’s arrest. Three others, Robert Palmer of 338 S Maple Street Manuel McLemore of 565 W 1th Street were briefly jailed then released. Witnesses said Mabry Palmer McLemore had been in a card game earlier and Mabry flashed a gun during the incident.
