Bhutto seeks unconditional release of Mujib in talks

President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said he plans to release Sheikh Mujibur Rahman unconditionally after further talks in Pakistan. Radio Pakistan reported Mujib had already been freed, though he remains under house arrest following the India Pakistan war. Bhutto cited world opinion backing Mujib and hoped India would honor it as well.

County eyes Tiffany setting for new administration building

Lorain County plans a $3 million four story administration building with a Tiffany like setting. Construction is slated to begin in March on vacant Middle Avenue land, with a 90,000 square feet main structure and 21,000 more if a fifth story is added. A 354 vehicle two level parking deck fronts Third Street with a possible third level. Contracts may be let by late February with bids for the parking facility starting soon. Two local architectural firms handle the dual project.

Oberlin Woman Is Lorain County's First Traffic Fatality

An Oberlin woman, Lydia M. Moore, 49, was killed when a car she rode in was broad sided by a vehicle driven by Richard J. Foley on Route 58 and 303 in Penfield Township. Foley, his wife Elizabeth, and others were treated for injuries. Foley was cited for disregarding a stop sign and charged with second degree vehicular homicide. Funeral arrangements are by Cowling Funeral Home.

Nixon Signals Re election Plans and Vietnam Pace

President Nixon, in a wide interview, indicates he will seek a second term with Spiro Agnew as running mate and will announce by January 14. He defends Agnew, details a peace and prosperity platform, and confirms continued troop withdrawals from Vietnam at present or faster rates. He plans no partisan activity until after the Republican convention. Local notes mention New Hampshire petitions to place Nixon on the March 7 primary ballot.

RedistrictingShrinks Seventh Ward in Elyria Map

Elyria submits a redistricting plan to Lorain County Board of Elections shrinking the seventh ward to a northeast strip and expanding the fourth ward to cover much of the former seventh. The changes shift political balance toward Democrats, with two council seats in the new fourth ward and shifts in the third and sixth wards. The plan, drawn by Democrat James Tracey, aims to realign wards east of Prospect Avenue and along the Black River, effective for the next election.

Attorney to contest Oberlin bottle ban

Attorney Richard Huber will file a suit seeking a declaratory judgment against Oberlin's ban on disposable containers.
