Maple Sap Boiling At Sugar Bush

The sap runs at EB R McConnell sugar bush near Pitts Neld as spring approaches. E R McConnell and son Edir collect sap while Mrs McConnell tends the fire and skim. The evaporator, installed by Mrs McConnells father Joe West fifty years ago, processes sap into syrup through four compartments. Northeastern Ohio Weather Forecast With Snow Likely

Five day forecast from United Press Ohio shows temperatures two to five degrees below normal with snow in the north and rain or snow in the south. Cold through Wednesday with continued seasonable daytime highs and a low around 27 Saturday night, precipitation totaling about a quarter to a half inch. Boy Hit By Car In Elyria Court Case Details

In Elyria Mayor's court Sidney K Sheldon of 127 South Logan street faces reckless driving charges after his car struck four year old Edward Morse of 158 Clark street in front of Morse's home. The boy is reported in good condition at Elyria Memorial hospital. Sheldon testified he did not see the Morse boy until he was nearly in the street, leading to testimony about distraction by a cat and a waving older boy. He claimed traveling at about 25 miles per hour and questioned whether skid marks near the scene were his. Patrolman Paw Brand was summoned to the accident scene. Further proceedings were directed to continue tomorrow.

Tito Urges Joint Plan For Trieste

Marshal Tito proposed joint Yugoslav and Italian administration of Trieste as a freely administered territory to resolve competing claims. He suggested a two zone setup with alternating Italian and Yugoslav governors for a three year term, to be annexed to the Italian peace treaty.

Seven Alarm Fire Destroys Clinton Hotel in Philadelphia

A seven alarm blaze in downtown Philadelphia destroys the seven story Clinton Hotel and damages three adjoining apartments. About 150 people are evacuated safely. guests on upper floors are rescued by aerial ladders and some treated for hysteria. Sixteen firefighters overcome by smoke. fifty more treated at the scene. The million dollar fire rages for five hours, turning the building into a blazing ruin and threatening nearby areas.

Reappointed Lorain Elections Board Adds Two Members

Republican Harold Covault and Democrat Joseph Ushelyn of Lorain are reappointed for four years to the Lorain County Board of Elections. Ushelyn sworn in for a new term starting Saturday, Covault to be sworn in later as the biennial reorganization nears. The board includes James B. Seward and James C. MacDermott, with Matuszak as clerk and Ruth Fax as deputy clerk in Elyria.

Induction Day Calls Thirteen Local Draft Eligibles

Thirteen draft eligible men from the Elyria area left for induction into the armed forces led by John A. Oseka of 117 Franklin Avenue. The group includes men aged 20 and older. A separate report from Cleveland on February 20 covered 11 local preinduction fitness exams. nine passed, one failed, one awaiting reexamination. Ten transfer registrants joined the group with eight accepted.

Kentucky Girl Kidnaping Case Under Investigation

A 16 year old Kentucky girl allegedly kidnapped from Kings Mountain and taken to South Amherst by three Kentuckians, with one missing key figure. Two men are jailed awaiting trial while deputies chase the missing woman who allegedly profited from the crime. The girl described being orphaned and moved through various foster placements before the abduction.

Patterson cites turnpike route change possibility

Patterson told the Kiwanis club that the proposed Ohio Turnpike route might shift north of its planned path. He warned if Ohio roads do not improve, industry will move elsewhere and 42,010,000 automobiles will bypass the state.
