Soldier Receives Purple Heart at Percy Jones Hospital
Lyria story notes Pfc. Richard Lahee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Derene Taboe, received the Purple Heart at Percy Jones Army Hospital in a ceremony led by General Uartein Be Gritefin. The 24 year old Korean War veteran earned the award for wounds suffered while serving with Company B 1st Cavalry Regiment during a hill battle in Korea. He manned a machine gun until hit, received aid on the hill, then evacuated to Yongdongpo and Osaka before returning to Percy Jones on August 30, 1941. He previously worked as a tree surgeon in Elyria and hopes to resume that work after discharge.
