South Vietnamese forces clash with Communist tanks and infantry over Hill 31 in Laos as they fight to regain the outpost seized last Thursday. Lam reports destroying 15 Soviet PT 76 tanks, with heavy casualties on the Communist side.
Lorain County deputies carried out mass secret indictments stemming from a Pandora’s Box raid last Saturday. Five suspects were taken in, with one charged with second degree murder in a separate case. 12 others remain at large as prosecutors pursue additional warrants.
In South Vietnam at Cam Ranh air base seventy U S Air Force personnel were detained in what officials call the largest mass narcotics raid involving American servicemen in the war zone. Some detainees reportedly belonged to the Office of Special Investigations. One airman was detained in the United States after transfer, with possible additional detentions cited abroad.

Israel presented its reply to UN mediator Gunnar V. Jarring on a Middle East peace formula. Ambassador Yosef Tokoah said talks can enter a serious stage, while Israel insists on keeping Sharm el Sheikh, the Golan Heights, and the Arab sector of Jerusalem even with the risk of losing U.S. aid. Egypt signaled possible progress if the response is positive.
Steven Grogan an 18 year old male member of the Manson Family testified for the defense saying he joined the LaBianca murder foray but Manson was not along. The four defendants Patricia Krenwinkel Susan Atkins and Leslie Van Houten face the penalty phase of their trial to decide life in prison or death in San Quentin. The district attorney warned Grogan could be charged with the murders if his testimony under oath is considered.
