Avon considers tax rise to fund safety needs and credits
Jensen argued that relying on real estate tax funds for safety departments burdens seniors and fixed income residents. The city plans to stop those levies if May 6 tax increases pass, which would also lift the local income tax credit from 1.5 to 1.7 percent starting Jan 1. The Finance Committee supported ending the three levies and the council unanimously backed the measure.
