Elyria seeks written bed tax ruling on county share
City Solicitor Terry Shilling will issue a written opinion claiming Elyria does not owe half of its bed tax revenue to Lorain County. The opinion follows a prior study by Kosma Glavas to the Visitor's Bureau and will be reviewed by bureau attorney Kosma Glavas for a recommendation. Shilling argues the law targets only cities with a 6 percent bed tax, noting Elyria’s 3 percent tax enacted in 1977 and a later 3 percent addition repealed in 1979.

Playground cave‑in after sewer line breaks at Central School
Amherst officials investigated a cave‑in at Central School's playground caused by a collapsed eight inch sewer line beneath the surface. Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Ken Glowacki led the response as workers excavated a sixty eight foot, seven foot deep trench to reach the line. The district estimates ten thousand dollars to extend repairs to the street, though the board chose partial fixes to protect existing facilities since the building has not housed students for two years.
