A town meeting spawned a classroom game in Columbia to simulate gas allocation. Five players compete or cooperate to use weekly gas supplies, guided by weather and allocation rules. The activity aims to teach students resource planning and distribution under crisis conditions.
Breaks in an eight inch main cut water to about 150000 gallons as 5000 residents face ongoing shortages. Authorities urge conservation, shut downs of all industries, and use of tank trucks and mutual aid if fires occur.

The 612 foot bridge links Jordan Point and Charles City County near Richmond. the tanker from Hopewell to Newport News reportedly veered and struck the bridge after steering trouble.
Sheriff deputies and search teams along the swollen Huron River hunted for Joseph Kumbail 13 and Jack A. 12 after dogs led to a creek near their Monroeville home. The boys, last seen after 4:15 pm, likely entered the creek feeding the river amid swift water and ice.
Ohio Attorney General's office probes Amherst police officer Carol Ramstead certification by chief Arthur Koppenhafer. Examined attendance record reportedly written by Ramstead shows classes not taken. Potential charges may be filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, with grand jury consideration next month.
A state plane crashed into a suburban home in Harrisburg killing Pennsylvania Transportation Secretary William Sherlock, Republican State Committee Chairman Len Frame, and six others. FAA officials confirmed Sherlock and seven others died. Frame’s inclusion on the fatality list was reported but not confirmed. The crash destroyed the home of Russell Geary on High Street.
About 200 inmates at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield threw trays and food and fought guards in the dining hall. At least 10 guards were injured as 50 to 60 officers from other sections were called in to quell the disturbance. Some chemical mace was used. Two inmates were treated for minor injuries. The prison houses 2,500 inmates.
