E. Howard Hunt, mastermind of the 1972 Watergate break in, was paroled from a federal minimum security prison in Florida before dawn. A laundry truck sped away as the parole announcement was read, but it remained unclear whether Hunt was inside.
Singer Connie Francis, who won a 2.5 million jury award against Howard Johnson's Motor Lodges, reaches an out of court settlement of 1,475,000 on the eve of an appeal. The tax free sum is one of the largest paid to an individual for an assault. Francis was raped at the Howard Johnson's Westbury Long Island motel on November 8 1974. the motel was accused of failing to provide a safe room and the incident disrupted her career for months.
