Telephone Strike Delayed Sixty Days in Bell Dispute
President Truman urged a 60 day pause in the nationwide telephone strike as Communications Workers union and Bell System negotiators agreed to seek settlement. Western Electric faces pressure from federal mediators while other Bell units may follow the delay pattern. The move aims to prevent a broader walkout and set bargaining patterns for regional talks among Bell subsidiaries and locals.
