John McCoy a 47 year old crane operator in Lowell is in a life and death struggle after his caboose fell 20 feet and impaled him on a 60 foot girder. Doctors described his condition as fair and unchanged as he fights to recover. The amputation of his right arm was performed by Dr Norman Gillmore Long using a hacksaw while suspended by a rope during a dramatic rescue aided by firefighters. Near zero weather helped save him by causing his blood to congeal.

Woman Found Nearly Frozen In Bath Street Home
Mrs. Elizabeth McNeal, 80, of Bathstreet, was found alone Tuesday in a near frozen condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital by Detective Lloyd Sweet and County Humane Agent Richard Horan.
