Five firemen died when the Odd Fellows Temple collapsed under ice coated debris in Columbus Ohio. Captains Otto Ignatze and Robert Welsh and Lieut Harry McFadden along with Firemen Herbert Harrington and Oliver Metzger were crushed, two others injured including William Donahue with jaw fractures. Fire crews worked six hours to recover frozen bodies, injuries reported among rescuers.

Harold C. Woodward of Columbus burned to death in the Ohio Penitentiary hospital after falling asleep with a cigarette in his mouth. Amputated Arm Of Trapped Crane Operator In Lowell
In sub zero weather crane operator John McCoy, 47, trapped 60 feet high, had his right arm amputated at the shoulder by Dr. Long through a small cab opening with the help of rope and firemen.
